Stages of "The Big Dig" quest
1. Talk to Bobbi
You will find her in a small alley in the Goodneighbor.
2. Meet Bobbi inside
I met Bobbi No-Nose in an alley in Goodneighbor and agreed to work for her. She hasn't told me much about the job.
3. Join the dig
I met Bobbi No-Nose in an alley in Goodneighbor and agreed to work for her. She asked me to work on digging a tunnel in her basement.
4. Exterminate the Mirelurks (0/3)
5. Talk to Bobbi
6. Meet Bobbi in Diamond City
Bobbi promoted me after I exterminated a group of Mirelurks in her basement. She asked me to meet her in Diamond City to tell me more about the job.
7. Get Mel Out of Jail
Bobbi revealed that we are digging to the Diamond City strongroom to steal what's inside. She asked me to recruit a man named Mel who is locked up in Diamond City Security.
Talk to the Diamond City Security. The easiest way, but the most expensive, will be to bribe him.
8. Recruit Mel
Talk to Mel outside the Security Office.
9. Meet the gang in the Dig
I broke a man named Mel out of Diamond City Security. Now I need to meet up with Bobbi in the tunnel and start digging to the Strongroom.
Go back to the Goodneightbor and meet Bobbi and Mel in the dig.
10. Dig to the Strongroom
Mel brought a robot to help with the dig. Now all we have to do is use it to dig our way to the Diamond City strongroom.
There are two routes to the strongroom. First one is filled with mirelurks, the second one is filled with with ghouls.
You have to use Mel's robot to destroy fragile walls.
After reaching the last fragile wall, you have to talk to Mel and select the I'm Ready dialogue option becouse activating the wall might not work.
11. Meet with the gang in the strongroom basement
12. Get out of the basement
Go back and wait for the explosion in the room with the last fragile wall.
13. Enter the Strongroom
There is Fahrenheit waiting for you in the strongroom.
Now you have 3 options:
1. (peaceful) convince Bobbi to leave
2. betray Bobbi
3. stay with Bobbi
14. Talk to Fahrenheit
Available if you managed to convince Bobbi to leave.
Fahrenheit thanked me for not letting Bobbi steal from Hancock's strongroom. She asked that I speak to Hancock in person.
At the end Fahrenheit will give you a new weapon - Ashmaker.
14.1. Quest completed
15. Kill Fahrenheit and her men
Available if you decided to stay with Bobbi.
Bobbi lied. We were not digging to the Diamond City Strongroom. Instead we ended up breaking into Hancock's strongroom. His bodyguard Fahrenheit confronted us and demanded we leave.
15.1. Open the Train Car
Bobbi lied. We were not digging to the Diamond City Strongroom. Instead we ended up breaking into Hancock's strongroom. His bodyguard Fahrenheit confronted us and we ended up killing her.
Grab Hancock's Strongroom Key from Fahrenheit's body and open the Train Car.
15.2. Get paid
We dealt with Hancock's bodyguard and found his loot in a locked up train car. Bobbi paid me for a job well done.
Talk to Bobbi inside the Train Car.
15.3. Quest completed
16. Kill Bobbi
Available if you decided to betray Bobbi. You have to kill her.
Bobbi lied. We were not digging to the Diamond City Strongroom. Instead we ended up breaking into Hancock's strongroom. I confronted Bobbi and she got violent.
16.1. Talk to Fahrenheit
Fahrenheit thanked me for not letting Bobbi steal from Hancock's strongroom. She asked that I speak to Hancock in person.
At the end Fahrenheit will give you a new weapon - Ashmaker.
16.2. Quest completed
17. Talk to Hancock
Now you can go to the Goodneighbor, talk to Hancock and unlock him as your companion.
If you killed Fahrenheit then you have to do one more, small task for him - Confront Bobbi. You have to visit her at Hawthorne Estate.
No matter what you do, you will be able to recruit him so you don't have to kill Bobbi and/or give him back his caps. Let him make a short speech. After it's done, he will be ready to join you.
